Do you offer spring/summer admission?

The programme only provides autumn admission (September).

Can I apply for several programmes at the same time?

You can submit multiple applications to different programmes for the same intake. You will need to pay the application fee and relevant supporting materials for each application you make. Applicants who submit application online will have to register separate accounts for multiple applications. For issues of application fee, please refer to: The HKBU Graduate School

I am a final year student. Can I apply for the programme before my degree is conferred?

If you are in your final year of study, you may submit applications before obtaining a confirmation of graduation. Successful applicants will be given a “Conditional/Provisional Admission Offer”.

I am an applicant with a few years of working experience. Can I apply for this programme?

Yes, you can. Over the years, we had students with working experience.

Does the programme review applications on a rolling basis?

Yes. Once we received a full admission package, we will begin to review it. That’s why we encourage prospective students to apply as soon as possible. Once the admitted number of students is met, the admission process would stop even before deadline.

Which kind of mathematics preparation do I need in order to be admitted?

We expect our applicants have knolwedge of calculus, linear algebra and statistics. These knowledge is helpful for the study in this programme. However, we evaluate each applicant holistically. Mathematics or statistics preparation is not the only factor to consider.

Can I apply for any scholarship?

Entrance scholarships will be offered each year for the most outstanding applicants. For international applicants, they can be considered for the International Postgraduate Scholarship with waive of full year tuition fee and provision of living allowance of HK$100,000.

For local students, scholarship would be granted up to an amount equivalent to a full year tuition fee on the basis of pursuing lifelong learning and academic performance.

Several merit-based awards will be given to the most outstanding students in the programme at the time of graduation.

Applicants who want to be considered for entrance scholarship must submit all supporting documents on or before the first admission deadline.

Will this programme provides financial aid?

Our programme DOES NOT provide financial aid for students.

Where should I send my application package?

I want to submit some other supporting materials, what should I do?

You can upload clear images of updated transcripts, public examination results such as GMAT or GRE (if any), TOEFL or IELTS and so on with your online application for MSc in Applied Economics Programme.

The two referees should send their Confidential Recommendation Forms returned DIRECT to the Office of Graduate School within two weeks from the date you file your application. The Confidential Recommendation Form can be downloaded from: Office of Graduate School.

When will I know my application result?

Formal notification of admission is sent by the Office of Graduate School. Successful applicants would receive the decision two or three months after the application submission. For checking the list of admitted students, please visit:Office of Graduate School.

The programme office will not release any admission decision to individual applicant.

How long will it take to complete this programme?

Generally, a student can complete this programme within one full year.

Can I be a part-time student?

We only provide full-time study.

If I am admitted; will Hong Kong Baptist University provides accommodation?

The University will help admitted students to arrange their accommodation in Hong Kong. Admitted students can apply for the dormitories on campus. However, due to limited supply, most applicants might not be able to live on campus. For more information, please contact the Office of Student Affairs.

What are “Bridging Courses”? Do they have exam?

“Bridging Courses” are designed to help students to get used to the academic environment and prepare for the first semester course work. These courses mainly cover basic mathematics, statistics, and basic economic theories. They are free of charge and there are no exams. The Orientation Day provides key information of the programmes that should be noted by students and career-related matters.

I am a non-local student. Can I work in Hong Kong after I have completed my study?

Persons who have obtained a qualification in a full-time and locally accredited programme in Hong Kong may apply to work in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG). For detailed information, please refer to the Immigration Department, HKSAR.
